What's a Pancake Block?
Every football fan knows the moment. A blocker puts a defender flat on the turf, the offense keeps right on moving, the whole stadium hollers, and somebody in the stands says it first: that's a pancake.
We know a good pancake when we see one, and so do the big fellas who dish them out. Ask any offensive lineman about his pancake blocks and he can tell you the quarter, the drive, and the play.
And not one of those pancakes is in a box score. The pancake block has never been an official statistic at any level of football. So we sat down with the guys up front and put it in writing.
THE OFFICIAL DEFINITION OF THE PANCAKE BLOCK
A pancake block is imposing your will on an opponent by driving him off his feet and putting him flat on the ground.
THE FINE PRINT
- The block has to be legal, on a live play, in a game.
- The block has to cause the fall.
- Any player can earn one.

Why Cracker Barrel?
An offensive line keeps the quarterback comfortable so he can do his job. We've been doing the same for our guests since 1969, starting with a warm plate of pancakes.
Getting them right takes technique, whether you're on the line or at the griddle. Ours are made to order, butter first, with crispy edges and a soft middle.
We put our name on every one that leaves our kitchen. It's about time the ones made on the field got some credit, too.
